Joanne Chan Award for Experiential Learning

Previously called the Joanne Chan Memorial Fund

Joanne Chan was a SOSS alumnus who had a zest for learning beyond the classroom. In 2010, she co-led a group of students to a remote village in Southwest China, where they conducted field research for their projects, while building rural roads to give back to the villagers. This laid the foundation for the Social Science Study Missions, which is a unique learning opportunity for SOSS students to apply their skills and knowledge in real-world situations. Sadly, Joanne passed away in 2011. To honour her memory and passion, the Joanne Chan Award for Experiential Learning was introduced to support students who are keen to embark on overseas learning opportunities, but are not able to do so financially.
