Shirin Fozdar Programme

Continuing the legacy of empowerment to women

The Shirin Fozdar Programme (SFP) was first created in honour of Mdm Shirin Fozdar, a pioneer of women's rights in Singapore. Initiated by the Association of Women for Action and Research (AWARE), and subsequently institutionalised under the Singapore Management University, the programme seeks to educate, train, and provide capacity building opportunities to the women community. Our hope is to grow SFP within and outside of Singapore by engaging academics, students, professionals, businesses, the government, non-governmental organisations and social communities to collectively build community resilience and stewardship.

About SFP Advisory Board / Mdm Shirin Fozdar

Chaired by Ms Claire Chiang, who have continued the spirit and legacy of Singapore’s pioneer women rights activist Mdm Shirin Fozdar, the programme runs a series of conferences, annual lecture as well as networking sessions to bring students, advocates, policy-makers, businesses, institutions and the public together to nurture integrated perspectives in women’s development and to shape a resilient community. Over the last five years, SFP’s conferences have reached out to over 1,500 people, and featured speakers and participants from over 45 countries. SFP has given close to S$1 million to over 50 projects and some 40 social service organisations in Singapore and ASEAN. It has also contributed to NGO capacity-building work in countries as far away as India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Kenya. The Fund advisors will continue to raise funds to support the ongoing and new projects by striking strategic alliances with different groups in the community committed to develop women's full potential.
