“We are grateful to Wilmar International for supporting the Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition, which is a platform for world-class innovators, venture capitalists and young entrepreneurial talents to convene and discuss game changing ideas that will power the smart cities of tomorrow.”

In the spirit of entrepreneurship, innovation and ambition, the Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition invites the brightest minds from the world’s top universities to come together to tackle the challenges of the 21st century.

In 2017, the 9th edition of the competition was themed “Smart City”, and saw a record of 550 submissions from over 300 universities in 68 countries. Ideas submitted hoped to address the opportunities and challenges a smart city currently faces.

Ultimately, it was a group from Queen’s University that walked away with the grand prize of $100,00 for their silicon chip that gave more comprehensive test results faster and cheaper than conventional tests.
