SMU Postgraduate Emergency Grant
Launched in 2020, the SMU Postgraduate Emergency Grant commenced as a university-wide effort to provide timely and much-needed relief for SMU postgraduate students facing sudden and unforeseen financial difficulties. The fund provided an avenue for the SMU community to stand in solidarity with our students and ensure that they could continue to access a world-class education, regardless of their financial situation.
Seeing the meaningful impact the financial contribution has made to the recipients of the grant in alleviating their financial worries and to help them to focus on their studies, this has now become an ongoing effort, to support more students who are financially challenged.
Strengthening our Culture of Paying It Forward
We nurture and encourage the SMU culture of paying it forward - recipients of the fund are encouraged to contribute financially, and support future students in need when they are ready to do so. This helps to instil the spirit of giving back within our students, which is a cornerstone of this fund in creating meaningful impact today and for the future.
Give to Create More Possibilities for Our Students
We invite you to join us in supporting the SMU Postgraduate Emergency Grant.
All donation amounts will make a difference in helping to alleviate our students’ financial burden and inspiring them to give back to others. Singapore individuals and corporate tax residents will enjoy 2.5 times tax deductions for approved donations to SMU. For dart fund contributions, please contact your school administrators to make your donation.
Hear from the students whose lives have been positively impacted!
I travelled to Singapore to pursue the LLM programme here alone. While studying, I had planned to engage in part-time work to help me cope with the daily expenses and supplement my tuition fees. COVID-19 made it challenging for me to find a part-time job. Luckily, the Postgraduate Emergency Grant came in time, and it helped to relieve my living expenses in Singapore. Thank you, SMU!

"My family faced severe financial hardship due to my father's worsening medical condition since the start of 2020. He suffered from multiple medical conditions causing him to be unable to work, and my mother became the sole bread winner of a family of five. The increased clinic visits have put a huge burden on the family’s expenses. This grant has helped to alleviate my family's daily expenses as well as cope with the increasing cost of my father's medical expenses."
