YPHSL International Moots Alumni Fund
In just the first 10 years of SMU's Ian R Taylor International Moots Programme, our moot teams have placed in the top-three in various international moot competitions more than 100 times; this includes all the Grand Slam competitions such as the Jessup (2013, 2014, 2022), Vis (2015, 2016, 2021), Vis East (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2022), International Criminal Court (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021), Price (2010, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022), and Frankfurt (2015, 2017, 2019, 2022).
SMU mooters have also won hundreds of Best Memorial and Best Oralist prizes in this period, and hold the world records for most international moot championships in a single season (6 in 2021/22) and most international moot final appearances in a single season (9 in 2015/16). SMU is also the first university in the history of international moots to have successfully defended a title in a major international moot when it won back-to-back championships in the 2015 and 2016 editions of the ICC Moot, a feat it repeated for the Price moot in 2016 and 2017.
Securing such results sends a signal to the world that our students are world class and that Singapore's legal minds are they very best. Immense resources are put into training each international moot team. From coaching to guest-judging, faculty members, friends of the legal community and past students of the programme have provided the mentorship and guidance to our international mooters. However, greater financial contributions are also needed to ensure that our students can continue to participate in as many international competitions as possible. In conjunction with the inauguration of the Yong Pung How School of Law International Mooters Alumni Group, we seek your generous support for the YPHSL Law International Moots Alumni Fund. All the international mooting teams have worked very hard and our efforts are validated by the successes we have achieved in a short few years. Each of us have also personally benefitted from the resources the School and the legal community have put behind this programme and given us the confidence and belief to take on greater challenges. We hope to see future generations of SMU international mooters continue to fly the SMU flag high.
Your support will enable the YPHSL to bring their training of international mooters to a new level of excellence, better equipping them for competing in the global arena.
