Kok Shu May, Quantedge Foundation Scholarship Recipient

I received the Quantedge Foundation Scholarship, for which I am extremely grateful. The scholarship has significantly reduced the financial burden and stress on my father, the sole breadwinner of our family. With this support, I was able to join multiple clubs, take on leadership roles, and contribute to the community through service projects. 

I spent five months abroad in Europe through an overseas student exchange program, which broadened my horizons, made me more independent, and expanded my global network. This experience ignited my excitement for future explorations. 

One of my explorations was using Figma to design interfaces and gaining knowledge of the five stages of Design Thinking. I'm aiming for a position as a UX Designer or Product Manager.  These two skills helped me identify my career interests and were beneficial in my subsequent UX/UI and Design Thinking-related courses.

As the Vice President of SMU Broadcast & Entertainment, I received training in public speaking which helped me to be a more confident presenter. The opportunities I took up through the club honed this transferable skill that I can use in meetings and presentations.

I look forward to my final year before transitioning into a full-time working adult. I intend to cherish this time, reflecting on the activities I have been part of in my university journey.
