Pornpitcha Chevasath, (BBM, 2022) Bangkok Bank Scholar
Growing up, my mother was my biggest inspiration. She taught me to be strong, independent, and positive. With her unique perspective of the world, she continues to inspire me on how I live my life. With her encouragement and support, I decided to join SMU as I believe the flexible and rigorous education system aligns with my academic interest.
During my time at SMU, I participated in multiple student-led events, an overseas community service project in Chiang Mai, was the President of the SMU Yim Siam Club, and joined Avente Consulting and Citi-SMU Financial Literacy Programme. Through my involvement in these activities, I had opportunities to meet new friends and make long-lasting friendships.
Receiving the Bangkok Bank Scholarship enabled me to pursue my studies at SMU without having to worry about my financial circumstances. I was able to lead an active student life and freely participate in my co-curricular activities because of the scholarship. I had the opportunity to intern at Bangkok Bank in 2018. The internship equipped me with skills and work experience for my future career. Not only did the scholarship relieve my financial burden, it also improved my quality of life, and allowed me to focus on studying, resting, and participating fully in university life.
As a scholarship recipient, I also became more compassionate and learnt to think of those around me. I have been advising and guiding SMU juniors through their SMU journey. I hope that there will be a time when I will be able to give back to society and support others in similar situations.
I am currently looking forward to starting my career. It will be the beginning of a new journey so I will ensure I make the most of it. I hope to learn about the different aspects of the firm and network with a diverse pool of people from different countries. I look forward to all the learnings and knowledge that I will receive as I embark on my career. The future is so exciting to me, and I will always remember the path that has led me to it.
