Becoming Singaporeans

  • At his National Day Rally speech this year, PM Lee Hsien Loong noted that Singapore's harmonious society has been built on big-heartedness and accommodation. He articulated a vision of home appealing to the soul and urged Singaporeans and foreigners to work at integration, so that we can be "a caring, generous and decent people." 

     

    We present SMU's very own New Singaporean couple - Prof Themin Suwardy, Associate Dean of the School of Accountancy, and his wife, Febrita, Senior Manager at the Alumni Relations Office, as they recount their experience of making Singapore their home and taking up citizenship, and how they felt drawn to giving back to the community.
