Honouring A Beloved Father’s Legacy of Grit and Generosity
Having had to take care of my dad who had both cancer and a stroke, I understand how difficult it is for students who experience added pressure on their physical and mental health due to having a family member who is ill. It is my wish that this bursary alleviates the pressure that they face, so that they can thrive as students and as responsible, kind-hearted members of society while also serving their role as a caretaker in the family.
Mr Brandon Lee (BBM, 2013)
SMU alumnus, Mr Brandon Lee (BBM, 2013) has set up an endowed bursary named the Lee Hong Khim Justin Endowed Bursary, in honour of his late father. One bursary valued at $8,000 will be awarded each academic year to full-time undergraduates at SMU with demonstrated financial needs.
A veteran banker, the senior Mr Lee spent over four decades at a local financial institution, working his way up the ranks through sheer grit and hard work. With a stellar career across all aspects of banking, Mr Lee’s last corporate stint saw him mentoring other bankers to help them develop their relationship with customers.
In addition to supporting Brandon in his university education, Mr Lee was instrumental in shaping Brandon’s aspirations and was a role model in his son’s life until he passed away from cancer in 2020. Brandon hopes to uphold his father’s legacy with this bursary, which will support financially challenged students of outstanding character and help alleviate their worries as they pursue their studies at SMU.
