SMU’s Pro Bono Centre opened its new premise and received a further boost to the good work it does with a gift of $300,000 by RHT Rajan Menon Foundation to support the activities of the centre over the next five years.

The partnership between the centre and the Foundation is in line with SMU’s commitment to cultivating a Pro Bono culture in SMU, and in sensitising students to issues around social justice.

Since its beginnings in 2013, SMU’s Pro Bono Centre has involved law students in regular legal clinics to serve those in need, and trains students in client interviewing skills and managing the clinics.

But beyond providing SMU law students with the opportunity to experience legal aid work, the centre allows students to see the real-life impact their studies can have on the lives of others.
