Nurturing Industry-Ready Talents to Shape the Future of Finance

Mr Vincent Yueh (BSc (Econ), 2012), has established the Acre Capital Scholarship aimed at supporting undergraduates with a strong interest in finance, that are of good character and possessing a strong work ethic. Being in the family office and private wealth management space, Vincent is passionate about developing the next generation of talent in the finance industry, paying it forward for the education opportunities he received during his time at SMU.

Apart from nurturing deserving students, Vincent hopes this initiative will inspire student recipients to create a positive impact on society and to continue uplifting the lives of those most in need within the community. The scholarship, valued at $12,000, will be awarded to one undergraduate per academic year, from AY 21/22 to AY 24/25, with preference for students with demonstrated financial needs.

“The scholarship has really helped in alleviating my family’s financial commitments and by extension, allowing me to focus better on striving for excellence in and out of academics. While I cannot say for certain what my plans post-graduation will be, I am deeply intrigued by how dynamic, volatile, and intricate the finance market is. The opportunity to work at your firm further increased my level of interest and have taught me how to view the market from multiple angles. I wish to continue exploring the finance sector and I hope to continue giving back to society in one form or another, akin to the financial support you have given.”

Carran Boey, School of Economics Undergraduate

AY21/22 Recipient of the Acre Capital Scholarship

“I’m pleased to support the next generation of students and emerging graduates through this scholarship. The university experience at SMU is a transformational one that all students should fully leverage and enjoy, especially with SMU’s specialised tracks within Finance and industry-relevant student clubs like the SMU-Student-Managed Investment Fund (SMIF). I have personally benefitted from the passionate teaching of the professors and made lifelong friends in SMIF and in the classroom. As alumni, I believe we can each do our part to be positive examples and to help young talents take their first steps into the working world, and these will go a long way in inspiring others to do the same.”
