Realstar Premier Group Donates S$1Million Towards Community Service Projects and Scholarships

Singapore, 22 May 2023 (Monday) – Realstar Premier Group has made a generous gift of S$1,000,000 to set up the Realstar International Study Award and the Realstar Community Service Fund at SMU. The gift will be the largest to support SMU’s overseas community service efforts to date.

Mr Julian Yip, Managing Director of Realstar Premier Group, said “Giving back to society has always been an important aspect at Realstar. SMU’s goals and beliefs are well-aligned with that of ours – that is to lend support to the less-privileged yet highly-driven students. We believe that they should be given equal opportunities and access to a good education, and it is our hope that by supporting them, they will in turn reach out to the future generations and lend the financially needy a helping hand as well.”

Professor Lily Kong, SMU President, said, “SMU’s vision is focused on nurturing global citizens and future leaders who are not only intelligent, capable and confident, but also driven by a desire make a positive impact, in Singapore and around our region.”

“I am delighted that the Realstar International Study Award will go towards this goal and because it is endowed, it will continue supporting generations of scholarship recipients in perpetuity,” she continued. “The Realstar Community Service Fund supports SMU’s efforts to imbue our students with a global outlook and a social conscience, nurturing leaders with a heart for our region and its communities.”

Every year, the Realstar International Study Award will benefit three full-time undergraduates from financially underprivileged backgrounds in Cambodia, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam, so that they have the opportunity to receive a holistic educational experience at SMU.

The Realstar Community Service Fund will support SMU’s Centre for Social Responsibility (C4SR) in providing grant assistance to full-time undergraduates who participate in community service projects over five years.

It comprises of two grants: an Overseas Community Service Project grant, which provides funding on a project basis and supports expenses incurred on overseas community services projects in Southeast Asian countries and Nepal; and a Local Community Service Project Grant, which will provide funding to curate new local community service projects in Singapore aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
