SMU names counselling centre after donor
SMU renamed its student counselling base the Mrs Wong Kwok Leong Student Wellness Centre on 5 April at a special ceremony - after a donor who pledged $1.6 million to it. It is Mrs Wong's second donation to SMU. Six years ago, the 74-year-old philanthropist gave $1 million to fund the studies of three needy undergraduates a year. To date, 18 have benefited from the scholarship. The 168sqm Wellness Centre, previously known as the Centre for Counselling and Guidance, provides SMU students with mental health support. It was unveiled by guest of honour and Speaker of Parliament Halimah Yacob. SMU President Professor Arnoud De Meyer said: "We are very grateful to Mrs Wong Kwok Leong for her generosity."
