Wealthy locals would get personally involved in charitable undertakings

Mrs Wong Kwok Leong, one of Singapore's renowned philanthropists, rarely says 'no' to requests for assistance. Last year, she donated $1.6 million to SMU for the establishment of the Mrs Wong Kwok Leong Student Wellness Centre. In celebration of her 50th wedding anniversary in 2006, a sum of $1 million was donated to SMU to set up a scholarship fund.
