Wong Kwok Leong donates $1.6 million to SMU Student Wellness Centre
SMU renamed its student counselling base the Mrs Wong Kwok Leong Student Wellness Centre on 5 April at a special ceremony, after Mrs Wong pledged $1.6 million to it. The donation will be used to run activities and services for the Centre such as peer support activities, peer counselling, student counsellor training, and help students with special needs and disabilities. Mrs Wong said that it was good to provide guidance to troubled youths, citing her own experience of counselling a depressed friend out of suicide. She also gave the Centre a painting with the word “Enlightenment” on it. Mrs Wong hoped that SMU students would be able to understand the meaning of life, cope with stress and overcome difficulties whilst pursuing their dreams.
