Encouraging Innovation Towards Social Betterment In Nepal
-
“We are hopeful that with SMU assistance, the Lotus Initiative will support and develop long term socioeconomic benefits to vulnerable groups in Nepal, especially in the rural communities and beyond, through expertise transfer and development, where feasible and appropriate, to existing projects that are in implementation stage in the communities.” Mr Nirmal Singh Chairman,
Lotus Life FoundationBreaking the cycle of poverty can seem like an uphill task – but that did not dishearten the Lotus Life Foundation.
Pledging $3 million to SMU’s Lien Centre for Social Innovation to set-up the Lotus Initiative, the Foundation hopes that the initiative will strengthen local capabilities and develop community programmes in Nepal, and ultimately help improve the lives of those in the community.
Through the initiative, various players such as SMU faculty and students, social purpose organisations, social innovators and entrepreneurs can work on issues ranging from gender equality to clean water sanitation, education and economic growth in Nepal.
But beyond driving these programmes, the initiative hopes to build long-lasting benefits to local communities through skills transfer and development.
