Supporting Exceptional Faculty In Their Work

In honour of his wife Celia Moh on their 40th anniversary, the late Mr Laurence Moh, former Chairman of Plantation Timber Products, made a generous gift to set-up the Celia Moh Professorial Chair in 2000 to support the outstanding work of a female faculty member at SMU.

Professor Phang Sock Yong from the School of Economics is the first recipient of the prestigious title, which was first given to her in 2014. She teaches courses on Urban Economics and Economics of Regulation and Competition Law at SMU, and has led an illustrious career both as an academic and in the government sector.

Such professorships are vital in building the talent of SMU’s leading faculty, by honouring outstanding individuals and rewarding scholarly achievement. The support provided by such professorships greatly enrich the resources available to faculty, fostering exceptional opportunities for both teaching and research.
