Richard Lee establishes Richard Lim Lee Scholarship with a $1.5 million gift

The Richard Lim Lee Scholarship was established by Mr Richard Lee, a member of SMU's International Advisory Council in the Phillippines, with a $1.5 million gift. Mr Lee is the Chairman Emeritus of The Covenant Car Company In., Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. and Scandinavian Motors Corporation.

Mr Richard Lee and SMU President, Professor Lily Kong, signed the gift agreement at SMU on 21 June 2019. Also present at the event were Hyundai Phillippines President and CEO, Maria Fe Perez-Agudo, SMU Senior Adviser to the President, Professor Tan Ching Tiong and SMU Dean of School of Information Systems, Professor Pang Hwee Hwa.

The ‘Lim’ in the Scholarship name is to also honour Mr Lee’s mother who turns 92 in 2019. The scholarship enables outstanding and deserving Filipino students to undertake the SMU Master of IT in Business (MITB) programme. Mr Lee, a parent of two SMU alumni, is a great believer in paying it forward and hopes recipients will in their own way be inspired to make a positive impact to improve and enrich lives’.
